Default Transmission Fluid Change

I think its time for my stang to get its tranny fluid changed. Agree? It only has 35,000 miles. Its an automatic so what brand should I use? And what will I need to get, in order to do it myself or should I just take it to the shop where they will charge me 100? Thanks for the help

Yeah nice idea. I`m actually do my tranny flush and tranny fluid change when I install my shift kit at the end of this month. I would go with Royal Purple MAX fluid. American Muscle carries the product, heres the link http://americanmuscle.com/royal-purp...ion-fluid.html
If u wana do it yourself I really dont know how difficult it would be but your best bet is to get a HAYNES manual or go to this website and find a manual for your car to see how its done.

Good luck pal!

For starters make sure you use the right type of tran fluid. For some models its Mercron, for others Mercron V. The Hayes manual specifies... I like Castrol brand myself. Also don,t forget to change the filter. If you have a way to get under it its easy. I just did mine on a pair of ramps. Also took the time to clean my pan. Took about an hour. Good luck

100 bucks! holey crap they are rapeing u! The shop I work at charges 45 bucks and that would still make about a 15 buck profit off your car. I believe there is like 4 quarts but dont qoute me on that.

Im gonna do this too on my next oil change since its been 126k since it was serviced...

As a standard I just go ahead and buy a case which runs between 25-35 dollars. I only used 6 quarts.Just add fluid till it shows up on the dip stick. Crank up the car and run it through the different gears. Then recheck your fluid level while running. If you change the fluid in the torq converter you will need to add more but this requires removing the transmission. At least I don't know another way... You can get the filter and gasket for about 10-15 dollars. It may be easier to let someone else do it. But I hate letting other folks touch my Stang. And I like to clean everything up in the process and I doubt they do that at Jiffy Lube. Your car.. your risk.. By the way it's a good practice to do this every 30K. Tran fluid is a whole lot cheaper than a new transmission. Good luck.
