Default Starting Problems

I have a 2001 v6 mustang that has been sitting around for a few months while I was away and now my car won't start. I replaced the battery which was dead and would not hold a charge. I also used a scan tool and ran a check on everything with the engine not running and no codes and everything checked out ok. I hear a click when I switch the key to the up right position that im assuming is the gas pump which is under the driver side of the car. I tried holding the accelerator all the way down and attempting to start but no luck. I tried several times but nothing seems to get it going. I did find a blown 20A fuse underneath the hood in the power box and changed it and nothing. The starter sounds fine but the engine won't turn over if anyone one can help it would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance!

First of all, if you hold the accelerator on the floor and crank the engine, it's not going to start assuming the Throttle Position Sensor is properly adjusted because it's in clear flood mode. Second, the starter sounds fine but it doesn't turn over? That's an oxymoron. How can the starter sound fine if the engine doesn't turn over. I'm assuming it will crank. Next thing, what fuse did you replace? Is it blown now? If the car has been sitting, it's very possible that a mouse chewed through a wire, the wire grounded, and the fuse blew. The first thing I would do is check to make sure the fuel pump is running. Put a small piece of hose down the filler neck, put your ear to it, and have someone turn the ignition to the on position. You should hear the pump run for three seconds, then they can crank the engine, stop, and it should run for three more seconds. If not, then there ya go. Find out why the pump isn't running. If all that happens when you try to start the car is you hear a click, the starter is the cause, or the cable connections on the new battery are not good.

I just had the same problem with my 99 V6. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and the fuel management modular. spent about $500 and it still wouldnt start. I knowa guy that works on mustangs and he told me about a wire that goes from the ignition, down through the steering column. When you use the tilt on your wheel, that wire sometimes comes undone and wont allow the car to start. Mustangs are known for that i guess. That might be your problem
