Default Squeaking behind dash?

I just bought a 2004 Mustang with a 3.9 / 5 spd and it has this squeaking noise some times. It doesn't always do it, just once in a while and it sounds like it's behind the dash and it only does it above 40 mph. What's weird is I test drove another 04 3.9 / auto first and it made the exact same noise over 40 mph. Any one else have this and know what it is? It's still under warranty so I'd like to get it fixed while it's covered and of coarse it never makes a sound when I take it in.

Mine makes a sound like it coming from behind the radio. I haven't tracked it down yet, but it comes and goes, it's really strange.

It could be just the vent right below the windshield (where your A/C and heat come out). That piece can sometimes come loose and rattle a little bit. I just pushed mine back down and it went away.

That's where mine sounds like it's at too.

When I took it in they told me about a vent that can come loose but said mine was OK. How do you get to it? I'll have to check it and see.

Remove the windshield defrost trim piece, loosen the dash mounting screws that are located behind that piece, and then re-tighten them. Be sure to get them good and tight. It's real easy on those to think you're overtightening them because they go through the dash pad, but don't let that worry you. That should take care of the noise. Be sure you get them tighter than they were when you removed them. Mustangs are the biggest pieces of junk when it comes to interior trim noises. We have 05's and newer especiallycome in all the time with specific trim noises.

Mine does this to at speeds over 80 or so on the highway. Easiest way to fix it is turn the radio up really loud.

LOL. I tried that but can still hear it. Sounds like a cricket trying to chirp along with the music but he's tone deaf.
