Wrong oil, how does this affect motor

Not true, use 5W-20 year-round for '99-'04 Mustangs, regardless of where you live. The practice of using heavier weight oil in the summer or in hotter climates might have had some validity forengines made 20 - 30 years ago, but not for those made today.

.....noticed this sticker under the hood and it said to use 5w-30 oil...should we trust you....or the manufacture....tough question.

Not trying to fight back man, butnot speakin' english doesn't meandumbness, as a matter of fact, mex. ppl aregreat grease monkeys. we can also make very cheapperformance mods (head triming, pistons, exhaust, etc) w/oblowin the engine.

Don't go to those chain oil change places. Most of the time the people doing the work don't even speak english, and probably aren't even legal citizens, lol. You're actually lucky they remembered to put oil in the car after taking the old stuff out. Either do it yourself (it's really really not hard at all) or take it to someone you know and can watch them do it.

FYI, the current Mustang V8 engine is overhead cam, not pushrod. That's what the "OH" stands for in SOHC and DOHC. Two, why would youroutinely be running low on oil? RunningLOW on oil of any viscosity will INCREASE your chances of severe engine damage in any temperature climates. Three, manufacturing tolerances are closer on today's engines than those of thirty years ago. Higher viscosity oil will not flow as well into the, shall we say,"tighter" spaces between moving parts, thus less lubrication. Four, I posted not to use 10W-40, 10W-30 is less of an issue. Five,I use 5W-20 in the winter, and 5W-20 in the summer. I don't put anything other than Motorcraft in my cars. They all run fantastically.

Lets see here.......30 years ago we had pushrods and OHC V8s......today we have pushrods and OHC V8s outfitted with fancy airflow sensors, emissions gizmos and "fuel injection". Please, tell me what differences are present enough to make my previous statement true for my 1962 Econoline, but not my mustang? If you are low on oil and are running a lower viscosity, you INCREASE your chances of severe engine damage in high temperature climates. I use 5w20 in the winter. I use 10w30 in the Summer. I dont put anything but Royal Purple in my cars. They all run fantastically.

Well, since you are all about "manufacturer's specifications", then if it is one tick under the line on the dipstick, it isnt gonna hurt anything if you're running what the manufacturer tells you, or a little heavier. Same thing goes for a quart low. No oil on the dipstick? Different story. And I never said you had to be routinely running low. I said low. When it gets over 105*F out at Firebird, and you're a quart low, oil isnt easy to come by. And most people there have to drive a good ways to go race. So they run anyways. And people race other on the streets during the winter/summer without haveing checked their oil in months.
Please, use some common sense, use your grammar skills, and actually READ posts.
Of course engines are built with less tolerances, but you know what. They're still low-tech mustang engines with lots of potential. And they're still engines. The differences between 5w20 and 10w30 are so small, its ridiculous that you guys are throwing such a fit over this thread.
Have a hissy fit why don't you, and your posts in this thread are too boring and too off the mark of common sense about automobile engines to actually bother reading, much less using..
Will do. The final outcome is, you most likely will not go wrong with using 5W-20 where so specified by the owner's manual (i.e. 2001 and newer), and using either 5W-30 or 10W-30 will likely not damage anything either. One of the most important things regarding engine oil is change it and the filter regularly, but everyone already knows that.
