Wrong oil, how does this affect motor
if it is heavier oil none really, it may actually last a bit longer and the engine will have to work a tad harder and it will be able to work longer and at higher temps but its no biggy, what is in you car??
If a heavier weight oil, (e.g. 10W-40 for instance) was added instead of a light weight oil (e.g. 5W-20 for instance) the engine would be somewhat less lubricated, particularly at a cold startup. Tolerances on late model engines are consideralbly tighter than those of 20 -30 years ago, so they generally require a lighter weight oil. If you simply added a quart, rather than did a full 5-quart oil change with it, the effect would obviously be much less.
If you've any doubts, get it changed to the correct weight. Oil is cheap compared to the worry factor from not doing so.

the guys at jiffy lube put in 10w30....a full 5-qts, im going to put 5w20 back in soon, umm thats not causing my car to sound like a lawnmower after initial startup, will it? cause its been making a clicking/ticking noise almost like a lwanmower right after it starts up, then it quiets down.
I run 10W30 during the summer, if its cold in your area right, throw some 5W20 in it for a couple of months or until it warms up. THEN put 10W30 in it once it gets hot again. Best thing you can do for your car.
i didnt even think about the cold, i live in south GA and its hot right now, if it is cold i would def change it out but if not, u can actually run at higher temps. also change ur own oil next time to make sure its done right
I use the heavier oil in my car, well with the heat in my city, like around (100+F degrees) in the summer, it's better for your engine so that the oil doesnt over heat too quickly and get all sludgy, but for the winter use the lighter oil.
Not true, use 5W-20 year-round for '99-'04 Mustangs, regardless of where you live. The practice of using heavier weight oil in the summer or in hotter climates might have had some validity forengines made 20 - 30 years ago, but not for those made today.
