i know in central florida where my grandmother lives most stations around there do that to save gas, i guess the figure if it is aggravating enough then u will just settle with the amount of gas that u have in the tank, i know its not her vehicle cause it does it to mine down there also, i could be that or if its your car then i would try and check to see if there is a blockage in the filler tube
Are you talking about when its almost full or what? Cuz hes saying that it does it after like a gallon worth and continues to do it. I cant imagine that it would do that for every gallon just to save gas.

This could be a mixture of your car and the pumps. First off, some pumps are faster than others and sometimes the really fast ones put in just enough to trigger the sensor. Most pumps though have an average speed that seems to work though.

Mostly, it is probably just your car and youll have to experiment with it. The classic mustangs you have to hold the nozzle sideways and pump slow becuase of the curve of the filler tube. I remember there was a big recall on the 05 models becuase of this exact problem. The pumps would go faster than the filler tube could put in the tank. My metro is horrible on this so I have to pump slow.

Try it different ways. Try it all the way in, half way in, etc... My 98 doesnt like it all the way in becuase I think the anti syphon mechanism makes it trigger the sensor..

^i think your right cuz when i pay cash like 10 bucks and its about to reach that amount then the pump automatically starts pumping slower because its about to stop pumping right. then it doesnt click off anymore and pumps like regular till it pumps the full amount

The anti syphon(sp) mechanism is probably what it is. It essentially is just a rod inside your filler tube to stop a hose from entering to far. But, it is also limiting how fast stuff will go in, so your pumping faster than it can drain in.

Instead of just squeezing the trigger, slowly tighten down till its coming out at normal speed

this used to happen to me...every once in a while it does...just went away...also depends on which pump you go to..we usually fill up at Costco...but there is ONE pump there that does this to me EVERY time i go there...so i just avoid it...i never have a problem with Shell pumps though

i was thinking of just buying a gas bottle and jus filling it from there but it would be gay doing it all the time. i dont know why it used to work then all of a sudden it doesnt.

should i just replace a fuel tank filler neck?

take a piece of wire or a dip stick or something and see if it goes down easily or look in there with a bright flashlight, there may be just a simple blockage, if u use a dipstick make sure to clean it well before putting it back cause u dont want gas where it isnt supposed to be
