Default AODE ?

Hi all. I am having a problem with a AODE tranny in a 1994 Mustang with 3.8 engine. Just bought it from somebody and he told me the car would not shift out of 1st gear. He said he checked the fluid level and made sure it was full. I confirmed that it was full. Still, stays in first gear when put in Drive. Anyway, bought the car and took it home on a trailer. I pulled the pan off the transmission and replaced the filter. I also drained the torque converter to completely change all the transmission fluid, which has probably never been done since Ford put transmission fluid in it. I used MERCON V tranny fluid. Well, took it out for a test drive. When put in Drive, the car will not shift out of first gear. I can put it in 1st and then manually into 2nd gear, but the car will not go into 3rd or overdrive at all. Anyone have some advice as to what I should do next or what I should look at? Is this tranny toast and I should start looking for a replacement?

94's had the AOD not the 4R70W version of the AODE so it's not electronically controlled.

have the trans checked by a good tranny shop. if you need another trans you can find them for about $400 on EBAY and you can get them from www.mpsautosalvage.com
$350

a used trans is alot cheaper than a rebuilt

I'm not positive but I think that is vacume controlled. If the trany has a vacume hose make sure it's not cracked or broke and is connected. It will not shift out of first without that hose.

I've seen similar problems caused by placing the car in D while still traveling in reverse. On our classic stangs with the old C4 it was def a problem. And on my step-sisters car, she beat the hell out of it apparently and it wont shift out of first until the car warms up, usually about 10min or so. Previous owner may have dont just that, shifted into D while still traveling in reverse and then just beat it up the tranny. I've heard a rebuild is usually the fix, but in this case, just take it to a tranny shop and see what they can do.
