Default Borla Vs Flowmaster

My 99 v6 is completely stock right now. I'm getting ready to do a number of upgrades, both cosmetic and running wise.

One of the first things I'm going to do is dual exhaust.
I was just wondering which to go with:
The Borla T-304 Cat-Back system http://www.borla.com/applications/lo..._System/14878/
or
The Flowmaster 17275 http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/pr...423de2fc0b3b51
(has the super 40 series mufflers).

I want performance, but just as important; the sound and style (Borla has nicer tips).
I want as much of a loud rumble as I can get out of my sixer (not lound rice rocket sound, but a loud rumble, you know). The sound is one of the main factors I'm doing it.
If price isn't a factor (even though the borla kit is consistantly around $400 more) which kit would you recommend for me?

Thanks for the input.
Ian

Edit: all other recommendations for exhaust are also appreciated!

i would never put overpriced borla on anything.

there is no reason to spend that kind of money

Flowmaster gets my vote but GT takeoffs with Force Proseries mufflers gets the nod from me. you can have a nice sounding exhaust with asgood performance for $200 with the GT takeoffs and Force mufflers. it will be 2.25" exhaust which is fine and the force part# is FRC-5201 from www.summitracing.com

alot of guy's have them here and love them. search for thew sound clips of the force proseries mufflers

Don't get the y-pipe system either way.

Go for a catback made for a GT, then get a midpipe fabbed up by an exhuast shop or go straight pipes. Don't bother with the y-pipe system. It isn't worth it.

Does that require I take the car in because I have to have it welded?

And the GT take off kit is only 2.25 not 2.5? And what are the tips, standard gt tips? (can those fit under the stock 6er bumper?)

Borla is the overall better of the two, but with a $400 price tag, they're asking a lot. I say just get an o/r h pipe (if you're looking for loud and your state doesn't do smog test) with some flow 40 backs if you want to take the kit route. If not, then get an o/r h pipe, go to summit and buy two force flow mufflers, and have a shop fab the rest. They sound better than flowmasters, and the quality is about as good if not better, because flowmasters have a bit of a rust problem as they don't like water too much. Ever notice all the trucks around town with rusted dual exhasut and the trucks are fairly new, I'll give you one guess as to what they're running.

The Boral kit had a $1000 price tag, not $400 :P and the flowmasters around $600. They're y pipes of course.

Sounds like Forceflow is a favorite.

I'm in CA, so of course I'd have to smog, which means I'm definately leaving the cats on.

In this case, I buy the forceflow mufflers, and what pipes? Then just take it to an exhaust shop and say "Rig it up"? What about tips?

get the GT takeoffs. the 2.25" exhaust is fine for V6's and won't really hurt performance.

take the gt takeoffs to a shop and have them cut the stock Gt mufflers off and weld the force mufflers in place. they will need to cut the Y-pipe on your car and weld the Gt takeoffs to the Cut Y. they will have to hang the exhaust below your rear bumper which is no big deal or you can get a GT rear bumper.

you can find GT takeoffs pretty cheap but you can also get them and the GT bumper from www.mpsautosalvage.com in their product inventory section

if you find GT takeoffs for under $100 which can be done. the Force mufflers cost $35/piece+ shipping then about $70 for the install so you are looking at $240 maybe $280 tops for an exhaust that will sound as good as anything out there

Keep the MAC's on there for a few months. They sound like poo after a while. That's why I'm swapping out Borla's.
