Default Help V6 question

I just got a 96 V6 mustang, and my husband believes that there is a rod knocking(i think that is right). I have read through alot of the post and I just can't seem to find the right answers I am looking for.

So will any 3.8l motor for any year mustang fit in it? Or should we just rebuild the one we have or what..

THanks

the 99-04 v6's make 190 hp compared to 150 hp for the older single port sixers. so if you want more hp, go with 99 or newer 3.8.

yea a splitport 99-03 3.8 or 04 3.9 would be a good choice and will still work with your other engine components, u will have some changin to do and will prob have to have ur computer tuned good after wards but a rebuild would also be fine, u could get the benefits of the splitport with your motor now just by changin out the heads and the upper and lower intake manifolds, that is the only difference btwn the 2 motors

okay the splitport is the type of intake manifold on the newer 99-03 3.8 liter motors. ur car is a single port 3.8L. if u rebuild u can get stock splitport, aka 99-03 upper intake, lower intake, and heads from a junk yard, mpsautoparts.com, or ported and polished(higher performance) at supersixmotorsports.com
u can get ur engine tuned in your case prob at any ford dealer, i dont reccomend, or at a good mechanic shop that has a the capabilites to reflash ur mustang

here are some splitport heads intakes and a cam(disregard)
left are your heads(under your valve covers)
top is the lower splitport intake
bottom is the upper splitport intake
compare these to under your hood, as a reference your upper intake manifold has the big 3.8 fuel injection on it

I would just try to find a 99-04 engine myself, it already has the split port parts so less work to do.
