I have a 2001 v6 and had a check engine light on for a few weeks. I borrowed my friends codes scanner and it came up PO404 Excessive EGR pressure. what the hell does that mean and is it something i can fix in my garage.

 

ok it is most likely the dpfe sensor or something like that, it's $40 from advance auto parts. i had the same problem on mine, Ford actually issued an extended warranty on the part, but i was outside the 60k when mine went out. it's a simple change too, just unplug the sensor pull it out and put in the new one.

it is a flat black sensor and will be i believe on the front of the engine next to the egr valve. it will be connected to the egr valve. i don't have a good picture to show you, but if you buy the sensor you will be able to see it, and replace it simply that i promise you.
