Default Cig Lighter broken..

I don't smoke so haven't used it yet but today I went to charge up my phone and noticed it wasn't working.... So I tried to see if maybe it's just that device by trying the cig lighter.. I never used one before so I figure all you do is push it in for a few seconds then pull it out then pull the steel plate back to expose the hot plate, right ? Because I did that and it was cold so I think my outlet for the cig lighter is broken any ideas on how to fix it ?

It's probably a fuse if not it's the whole thing, they sell replacements at places like autozone.

What's the handrest box is that the center console thing because I dont have a cig lighter in their. My car is a 2000

Oh yea my outlet thing looks pretty dirty in there too I was looking in it and doesn't look to clean can that be a problem ?

I also need this fixed because I'm getting a radar detector and they use the cig lighter for power... How can I test to see if it's a fuse ?

Yeah its the center console box, and its in it just look around,My stang has it there
on the 00 ints not inside the box, there is one on the outside of the box that faces the radio.
i would check the fuse first..see below...then if it looks good, pull of the shifter bezel(just snaps off) and make sure the cigar ligther is pluged in. if it is i would go to walmart and buy a new one, they have them there, they say for ford vehicles on it. then take that and try it. if it doesnt work take it back and tell them it didnt work so you can get your money back. other than that i dont know though...

fues

the #1 fuse is the cigar lighter fuse, pull it off (you might need some nedle nose pliers or somethin to make it easier on yourself) and look at it closely. make sure the metal strip that goes through it is fully intact and a silver color. then push the fuse back in and make sure it goes ALL they way in, that could be a problem right there, sometimes fuses get loose and it breaks the connection.

the fuse box you are looking for is under the driverside dash. its covered by a black plastic cover. the cover is held on by little clips. there is a spot right in the middle of the cover you can put your fingers easily. just squeeze and it will pop off. the fuses are #ed on the actual fuse box itself, the #s are small but you can see them. look for #1, should be in the corner. like shown above.

Yea I found the second cig lighter outlet lol, I can't belive I didn't notice that before it has a cover on it. That one works fine though so i take it that it uses another fuse ? I'm going to check the fuse box tommorow because it's dark out already. Thanks for the help

Mine was out when I bought my car. The armrest one worked and the one in the dash didn't. Fuse was blown. Guess they aren't on the same fuse. Anyway, popped in a new fuse and voila. Cheapest fix so far !!
