Default Replacing Shocks/Struts

I duno if you've seen it, but there are advertisements for monroe shocks that say you should change your shocks every 50k miles. Is this true, or are they just trying to sell more shocks? If so, I'd love an excuse to put some tokicos on or similar this summer, and maybe even new springs. I want stuff to do this summer on my car, and I figure shocks would be fun to replace.

i changed my shocks/struts and springs at 80k miles because i wanted to upgrade. however i don't think the stockers were worn out enough to NEED replacing however I WANTED to replace them. if you change shocks and struts put lowering springs in it the combination will significantly improve handling.

thats one of those things like change your oil every 3. it depends on how you drive, where you drive conditions you drive in.

if you feel like they are on the way out, the car is bouncy or floaty, change em out.

if not, don't worry.

my car feels pretty bouncy, but its really had mostly freeway miles. I've put like 1.5k miles of semi spirited driving no my car since I got it about 5 months ago, but the 63kmiles before that were about 80% highway. I'd like to replace them, but I don't really want to spend the money on them. I'm a cheap-*** when it comes to money.
