Keep it in Drive!!! D2D will just mess you up. It takes about a second and a half for it to change gears. Pretty sure in 00 The grand am has the 3.0L?? DOHC, there all the same transmission if im not mistaken. I agree with JThorn, get a new stall and install a shiftkit.

lol yea I drive a 3.8 six im not trying to pick a fight with any of you ford people lol. Im just saying itsa Grandam for crying out loud lol. And if you hadnt heard my mullet Maro mobile is comeing back....might be takeing a dirtnap at the moment but its comeing back from the dead with from what I understand over 130ish more hp then the SN97's.
Oh and nota bad little Sixer eather witha six speed trans and 235ish hp. Looks like its gota the Stang in the corner on stats. But I meen im not trying to pick a fight here. [sm=bounceybounce.gif]
