Default axle assembly

alright lets say for a 2002 v6 stang i wanted to change the rear end assembly from the 7.5 to 8.8... would i get one from a gt model or from like ford racing even though it says through the 98 model? and second would that be a direct drop in or what else would be needed. thx in advance

I beleive you'd need one from a 99+ if you want the same width rear end, the earlier ones aren't as wide I "think".

Yes you can use any 8.8, even from earlier fox bodies. The earlier 8.8 are something like .25" shorter width wise as to what he was saying. But you can use any 8.8 and it will bolt up. You can even re-use your 7.5 axles in the 8.8 from your 7.5" if you want to. And it will bolt right up, no problem. What i would do though is change out the suspension in the rear like the control arm because they have to come off anyways during the swap, might as well put better stuff up in there.
