Default Starter Issue

So whenever I have to start my car in the morning, I feel that I have to keep the in the ignition position for an extra couple of seconds. It feels almost as if the car doesn't want to start, but it actually starts. This problem dosent happen after driving the car for a while, parking it for an hour or so, then driving it again. Only if I keep it off for few hours or overnight. My battery tested fine... Any ideas?

Is it turning over OK or is it sluggish?

Sluggish for a second, then turns fine. I am thinking fuel filter or pump?

what year, is it nearing 100k miles w/o a tune-up. if so then put new plugs, wires, air filter, pcv valve, and fuel filter. that is a pretty basic tune-up. now this is assuming you don't have a charging problem. autozone will test your battery and alternator for you.

Everything is new except the Fuel filter. Battery and alternator are fine.

well change the fuel filter then and go from there, that should only run you $10-15. if you haven't done it before consult a haynes manual so that you don't get sprayed with fuel. plus you need a special tool to release the fuel line but they are cheap at any auto parts store.

Take the starter out, clean it up, and have it bench tested. If it has dirt/oil build up, it gets softened after heating it up (driving around). Once it's back to room temp though the stuff is like glue.

I am still waiting for my manual. Where is the starter motor located? any write up out there on cleaning, etc...?
For the fuel filter, I found this website with VERY good write ups: http://www.bullittarchive.com/1000.htm

Under the car. Put the front end up on ramps. It's between the passenger side exhaust pipe and the engine/tranny (tucked in) just under the passenger side exhaust manifold.. Be sure to take the (-) battery cable off before messing with it. The (+) lead on the starter is surounded by metal and if you get a wrench in there and touch it to metal (which you will) you could hurt yourself or damage your electrical system by causing a short.

For cleaning just go to any auto parts store and get electrical parts cleaner. CRC makes one that comes in a Red and White spray can. Has pictures of alternators and starters on it.You could use brake cleanerbut it takes longer to dry and could eat any plastic it hits.
