I have a 2003 3.8 mustang. I just put on a custom made exhaust with two flowmaster 40 series mufflers. I left the cats on so that it was street legal, the only problem is that its kinda quiet. Any idea on how i can increase the sound level on my car while still keeping it legal. Id like to keep it low cost if possible.(like under 600 bucks) thanks.....

High flow catted midpipe (h or x) will make it louder, but nothing will be as loud as the cats off completely.

Im not sure if cams will make your car louder or it will change the tone. Best sixer I have heard was dual exhaust, 2 40 series flows, cat less h pipe, and cam.

take the cats off, check out my sound clip in the general discussion, it has flows and a o/r h...u will love it, if u have to keep it legal tho then get high flow cats, just 2 will do ya

keeping it emmissions legal and you want something loud... swap out those garbage 40 series and go with 10 series.

All you can do to make it louder at this pointis to remove the cats -- any other configuration of the exhaust (x, y setup)will just change the tone but the volume will pretty much stay the same.
