Default Basic Performance Upgrades

I drive a 2001 V6 Mustang and I was wondering what some basic performance upgrades would be that are fairly inexpensive and would give me more speed/power, etc. Thanks

Hi...I have a 2001 V6 convertible.....so far I have put dual exhauston her....cold aid intake....Diablo Predator tuner(which helped tremendously on power and transmission shifting). I would like to get an underpulley which I understand will increase power. I have also done some cosmetic changes.....GT hood......smoked GT headlights.....fog lights.....black Mustang letters on rear bumper......tinted windows.....and next week I am putting in black leather seats I got off ebay. Hope this helps.

You have got a nice looking car. A few bolt-ons: C&L Performance cai which includes a 9inch K&N filter, a 73mm MAF housing and a heat shiled that attaches to the stock intake tube. It looks stock. RPM Outlet ~$180-190. Dual exhaust, either a dual catback, or true dual with an X-H pipe. Computer programmers, as mention compliment airflow mods and firm up auto trans shifts. You could get a plug in chip or a hand held tuner. Do not forget other things tire press., ignition, fuel filter, oil/fluids, etc. toget it running as good as possible before you spend money on speed parts.

I know a lot of people disagree with the cai, but here is a link to the C&L page, they provide a link to their dyno chart as well. http://www.cnlperformance.com/73mm_V6.html

Heh, taking off the silencer and putting on a K&N will give you the same benefits for around 30 or 40 bucks.
Most people here start off with U/D pullies and dual exhaust. If you're an auto, you can get a shift kit. If you're a manual, you can get a short shift.. With both auto and manuals you can get lower gears (3.73 or 4.10) and a limited slip diffrential. The gears will give you faster acceleration and the LSD will make it so both rear tires spin.

Here's a couple nice little threads to reference:

In my experience, that's not the case. I'm not saying everyone should go out and buy a $200 CAI, but a used BBK, MAC, etc, or an Ebay CAI should yield gains over just the K&N+silencer removal setup.

Basically to start off good on the modding, go with some gears/LSD, K&N filter/removed silencer, a full exhaust (if you can afford it), and then give it a nice tune using an SCT Xcal 2 or the Diablosport Predator tuner.
You cannot go wrong with either of the tuners, both do the job well even though some say SCT is a little more user friendly.

Stock hp is 190hp-193hp depending on the year... which puts you in the ~160whp range, stock.

With K&N/exhaust/tuner, you're probably looking at 175-185whp range. Give or take depending on the exact mods, tranny, specific car, dyno, etc. Plus, the gears/t-loc will really wake the car up.

My stock V6 dynoed 167rwhp.
I haven't gotten it dynoed since then, really no need to (it was free the first time).

You can probably expect ~ 185rwhp like the guy above me said, which is around 213hp to the engine
