my sister just got a 99 v6. she wants some more power but does not want anything stupid fast. i have the cam out of a 96 v6 mustang and was wondering if it can work on the 99+ engine.

yes and it is slightly more agressive but not enough to really be worth tearing the engine apart for....it would be noticeable but you also need to be careful with used cams...make sure it donesnt have serious damage (flattening of the lobes, etc.) the 99+ v6's like more duration the stock is 172 i believe and the 96 is 184 if my memory serves me...id go with a 207 cam from rpm they are only about $160 and you will notice gains of about 20rwhp from the cam alone....that will be much more noticeable then the 96 cam and its new.....still its not worth it unless you are able to do the install yourself becausse a cam install can cost upwards of $900 or more

Cam install is a bish! Doable, but a bish! I think the one we did on my 99 was a 214 if I remember right. But we did alot of other top end work and that's the cam that was matched for the other mods.

it's not that much cam, actually it's just about right for the split ports. My cam is alot of cam. I have a 224/230 cam.

quoted from roger of rpm-mustangs off of 3.8mustang.com's forum about another persons car....

"A 210/218 is a bit large for an '04, especially an auto,
if you want more info email me for a cam form and for
a small fee, I can spec a good cam and direct you to
where to get it."

he is the premier cam expert for v6 mustangs and if a 210 is too much for it for sure a 214 is...and stallion idk who told you that would be a good cam but you should contact roger and have him spec you a cam!!!!

Hey Sleg, the key is just what you quoted, "for a small fee, I can spec a good cam and direct you to where to get it." If you buy a balanced kit, they spec the right cam for the heads, valves and intakes.
He must be refering to a stock engine when he says 210.

im not claiming to know all but roger knows his stuff and there are numerous poeple at 3.8mustang that are putting down impressive numbers with the 207 cam...not many have larger cams because they arent needed.....even guys with 4.2L strokers with BV heads an ported intakes dont need more then the 207.....

Ya, I'm no expert either. I'll look up my parts receipts when I get the time. Now I'm curious. [sm=smiley24.gif].

So what makes this guy an expert over me? It's true a split port intake does not need as much cam timing, but my setup requires the extra duration.
