Default 2002 RWHP? Kinda sluggish.

I am just curious what is the rated rwhp on an 02 3.8 v6? I know the engine is rated at 190BHP.

My wife just got a 2002 v6 convertible autoand we raced with my 2006 cobalt ss na 2.4 manual. And I beat her, she actually got a jump on me and I spun most of the way through 1st. Iwas thinking she would beat me pretty easily but i was suprised. Is there something wrong with her car? I know my cobalt is rated at 171BHP and around 150-160 fwhp and it comes in at about 300lbs lighter than the stangbut i would still think she would easily beat me. And yes she is a pretty good driver. I have even driven the car and stomped on it from a dead stop and it just doesn't seem to have much power off the line, it wont even slightly spin the tires unless they are wet. If this is normal is there any simple mods that can help it gain some power?

Was the traction control on? If it has it it won't spin the tires.

Yes the traction control was on. I haven't and I don't think my wife has tried driving with the traction control turned off. Will turning it off have any kind of affect of the acceleration other that possibly just spining the tires from a stop.

I REALLY don't mean to be a dick about this.....[&:]

A New Edge V6 auto vert is one of the slowest Mustangs ever produced. Great for cruising and looking good, but it won't win many drag races. Bone stock, they're aboutlow 16 second cars. The auto is the biggest reason, the extra 200 pounds from the top is the other.

If you're looking at modding the car,a programmer will really wake it up by firming up the shift points.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but her mustang is an 02 and I don't know if you are classifying that as new. And i don't know what the Edge V6 auto vert is. Is that the engine that is in her car?

New Edge refers to a specific body style (99-04), Auto = Automatic, and Vert is short for Convertible.

Having the traction control on does slow it down because it's applying the brakes to keep the tires from spinning. For that car a shift kit and lower gears will help quite a bit, they won't add power but they will make if feel like they did.

It was the "New Edge" in 99, now in 07 I think it's safe just to say "Sn-95 Edge" which is what it really is.

The fact that her car is both an auto and a convertable makes it have a serrious disadvantage when racing, in short, it's no suprise she lost, automattic Mustangs are fairly slow in their stock form, especially with the extra 200 or so pounds added on with a convertable top.
