P0175 code!
Hello!
This is my first post on this forum, and I thank you for reading!
My father-in-law's 1996 Mustang V6 threw a CEL last week, and he's starting to panic... He took it into a local shop who said that they needed to change the MAF sensor, and would give him a "deal" at $500 to do it. [>:] There were no techs around to speak with - this was all relayed by the front-counter girl, so I'm not sure how accurate it is.
Well, for that much I figured we could get him a code reader and replace the sensor on our own. The sensor is ~$200 and we're pretty sure it can't be returned after install, so we wanted to make sure we fixed the problem the first time.
Hooked the code reader up tnoight and got a P0175 code which appears to be "System too Rich (Bank 2)". Does this mean it's the MAF sensor, or could it be something else?
Strange thing was that the counter girl said it was throwing a "lean" code, but we got a "rich" code. [sm=smiley3.gif]
We want to get his shiny convertible back in tip-top shape, so any guru's opinions are highly valued!
Thanks again,
Bart

RE: P0175 code!
Strange that they told you it was lean, but your reader says it is rich!!!!!
$500??? you can buy a new MAF sensor from the dealer's parts room for $149 (at least I can here) and install it yourself. Four screws and one wire harness to disconnect.
Give me the code off your MAF, I think I have one here in working order. If it will work, and you will give me $5 to ship it, I will give it to ya, screw the dealer.
I always look out for stang guys

RE: P0175 code!
a trick to try..... disconnect the battery for 10 mins, then reconnect. this will reset the cpu, then see if it throws the code.
by the way, the cpu is set to throw a code at certain mileages to get you to go to the dealer....... try the reset and see what happens

RE: P0175 code!
Thanks for the tips and your offer ! I'm going to clear the codes and see what comes up again.
Before I do, however, there is a possibility that more than one code came up and I only read the first one... F-i-L said he'll read it again tonight to see what comes up.

slegos888, thanks! He's going to try that tonight. I'm at work so I won't be able to help, but he should be okay.
trebor871, if cleaning it doesn't solve the problem, I grabbed the numbers off the MAF sensor - "f57f-12b579-ca" and in another spot "6d02-2" - any chance you'd have one of these lounging around?
Thanks again to all!
