The tubular style stock manifolds the Ford put on the 98 V6 are more or less factory "headers". Anything aftermarket will flow the same unless you go long tube, and even then, you aren't going to gain much.

98's supposedly have the EGR tube in a different location making them unique but my 97 junkyard engine that i put in my 98 had exactly the same factory headrs as my 98. they were identical.

unless your going with longtubes don't bother getting headers and even then you won't gain much.

if the aftermarket headers that you do get if you buy them have the EGR nipple in the wrong place just cut yours about 3" before it goes into the EGR valve and use Emissions high temp hose to conect everything.

My header guide doesnt touch too much on 94-97 VS aftermarket shorties but the power gain isnt worth it. I have seen some people say as little as 4-5hp.

LT's are the only good replacment for those. They arent smog legal though, and to be federally legal you need a catted midpipe.

Thanks for the comments guys. but there is two reasons why i want to change the headers is for performance and to make my car sound better since its just a 3.8
so i dont know if i should change them since the headers that ive seen are over 400 bucks. will it make a big difference on the sound???

Go longtubes to go home. It makes a world of a difference, plenty of people think i have a v8 when driving by.

if you get aftermarket shorties you will gain no power and no sound difference over the factory 98 headers.

LT's will give it alittle more rumble and deepness but not much. and at max 10hp10ftlbs torque

why dont you just keep your stock headers? they are fine... do you have full cat back exhaust? DUAL EXHAUST? if no then dont worry about the headers . im not sure about the performance diffrences, but there is a diffrence in tone of the exhaust. im not saying that ones better then the other but it just has a more unique sound to it i guess that is how i can explain it.
