Painted Front Pony (pt 2)
Ok, well today since I was bored as hell, I decided to paint my front pony emblem like I"ve been thinking about. I didn't take pics yet because its been chilly outside, the windchill is something like upper 20's/low 30's, so its a little cold to be out there, but anyways, I didn't take the emblem off because I didn't have the bit that is used, but it all worked out good.
I first took some 120 grit sandpaper to the pony, roughing it up pretty good.R
Then, I took a few coats of primer to it. This was difficult, because its spray primer, and so to keep from getting it all over everything, I used loads of newspapers, but it worked out really good. So, did that, had to fight with the tip of the tail, and the other sharp points because the primer kept wanting to flake off, but after enough sanding on the corners and enough layers, it stuck well. Then, I took some ebony black craft paint ($.99) from the local hobby lobby, and brushed it on, probably about 10 coats by the time it was all said and done, using about a 3/4 inch foam brush to paint most of it, and then the really small bristle brushes to paint the tight spots. Sanded that down after every couple coats, and after the final coat, then I took a can of black gloss enamel to it, sprayed one layer on it, and bam. sexiness. Although I'm not quite sure how I like it so far, it definitely turned out better than I was expecting, but I think once I install my smoked headlights and corners, it will look a heck of a lot better than the faded plastichrome pony, and will look really awesome. I'm going to be painting my wheels over the next couple weeks as well, so by the time I go back to school it should look really nice.
I'll have pics sometime in the next couple days, probably after I get my new headlights installed, which leads me to my next question, what sealant do I use for the headlights? Isn't it RTV silicone?
Pics will come sometime, probably on christmas day or the day after.

Use SEAL ALL
the lights I got are the ones from Blue Oval Industries that are basically like the clears all the way around, but they're smoked. They have no amber in them at all, they just have orange bulbs.
and no, I don't live in MI. These temps don't usually bother me once I have a few days to get used to them, but since it was in the 70's yesterday, it felt damn cold by comparison.
pics will come after I get my headlights installed (that's what I'm doing christmas day), and then I'll get a better idea of how it's gonna look. I don't want to keep changing it right now because the whole look of my car is gonna change with the smoked headlihgts.
