I took my car to the mechanic and he said that the transmission was locked and i needed to get a new transmission. Is getting another transmission the only thing i could do or is there anything else?

 

Manual or Auto? by locked do you mean siezed? or cant get into gear?

 

Its a 5 speed. Well the mechanic took the tranny out and said that when its in neutral, it should spin freely, but when he puts it in neutral it doesnt spin at all, its just stuck.

 

So it could be seized or could be a problem with the shift mechanism. I guess the guy knows whats up! Can you get a used one from a breakers yard?

 

ill probably just let him get it for me, he said he can get one with a year warranty for $600, and he is charging me $80 to put it on, also with a year warranty. So i guess theres really nothing else i could do.

Did the g/box run low on oil or have an oil leak? just wondering what the cause was!

 

He checked it and it had oil, so i really dont know what couldve caused it. When it happened, i was on the highway driving on 5th gear and it just started making a weird noise so i pulled over, then when i re started the car,everytime that i would take my foot off the cluth, the car would stall.
