Default HHO Modification

Has anyone tried adding and HHO system to their car? I am thinking about building a project car out of my 2000 mustang (new to me as of Jan 8th 2008).

This car should get about 20 MPG stock on average. I am thinking I can get it up to 30 MPG or so. The car came with a cold air intake and dual exhaust, so it should be making between the stock 190 and maybe 200 HP.

Of course, I know most people want MORE power, but I am greedy and want both. I know the snake oil salesmen on the net are saying HHO will add 30-30 HP and 20 -30 MPG!!! Which I am SURE is a load of crap. I am just interested if anyone out there has actually done this type of modification yet?

Thanks,

Phillip

eh, i dunno. might be "safer" to stick to tried and true mods to squeeze out hp...a procharger kit with intercooler comes with all the fixins, i.e., and it is guaranteed hp.

but let us know how it goes..

I think it might be a hybrid thing. I'm just taking a shot in the dark, basing it on his wanting to increase the mpg. HHO might stand for hybrid high output?

If this is what you're talking about, I highly doubt it's going to be possible to do on your own. Auto manufacturers spent years developing hybrids. Just the shere computer programming you're going to have to do will be crazy.

The closest practical thing you can do is make it fully battery powered. We did this in school. We took an old Mitsubishi truck, ripped the motor out, and powered it purely by 12v car batteries. There's 40 something of them between the engine bay and the bed of the truck. It's ****in' heavy as hell, but all you have to do to "fill up" is plug it in overnight. And it makes crazy torque. It's not really fast, but it'll roast the tires way better than 99% of the V6's here, and even a good number of the GT's. Electric motors make awesome torque.

Here is a Link to a wikipedia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxyhydrogen_flame

In short the idea is this:

1. Produce Oxyhydrogen from water. (This is old news, and is something revived by Yull Brown)
2. Inject it into the air mixture. (This will increase the burn efficiency of the gas as well as act as a cleaner catalyst for the burn)

Of course simple ideas are often fraught with unseen issues. Some obvious issues are the emissions: If you are burning a cleaner fuel (or more correctly - increasing the efficiency of the fuel your using) your exhaust gases will be altered causing some havoc with your O2 sensor. There is also going to be some flow issues that will require a delivery system far superior to the ones currently being produced out there.

I hope that is a good start as to "WTF is an HHO system".

I think it might be a hybrid thing...

Xemeth-

In a way it is a hybrid system in that it is a dynamic system comprised of multiple fuel sources. This is, however not what I think you meant.
It might be better to think of this as an additive. Even though it is not added directly to the gas it does increase the efficiency of the detonation (or at least it is supposed to).
