eh, i dunno. might be "safer" to stick to tried and true mods to squeeze out hp...a procharger kit with intercooler comes with all the fixins, i.e., and it is guaranteed hp.

but let us know how it goes..
I am not interested in a "safer" way to produce more horse power. That is fairly easy and does not require much more than a wad of cash and some time. What I am interested in - is the ability to have a fun American car (this is my 5th Mustang since I was 16) and get decent gas mileage (30+MPG).

While most people on this board seem to want to produce more HP (Nothing wrong with that!) that is not my primary intention. I hope everyone here can accept that.

Thank you,

Phillip

If you want 30+mpg I think your in the wrong vehicle, and something with an [H] would be more suited for you.

My question is... will the gains from the HHO be greater than the pull from the battery / alternator?

I think you hit the point I am most interested in squarely. It is not about being in the wrong vehicle, it is about making the vehicle I have the right one. Anyone can take the easy route and say "get a different car". I have a 2000 mustang and I have no desire to sell it or trade it for something else. If the HHO system is viable, then why not take the time to make it work? If it causes some issue with the electrical system (it does draw anywhere from 10 - 25 amps depending on the setup) then it might not be worth the gains.

That last point is really getting to the cusp of what I am trying to figure out.

It appears that nobody has tried this type of system, and it also appears that nobody is interested in this project so I will end it here.

If I am wrong please let me know.

Thanks

Phillip

If you read last months issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords you would see an article about Al Papitio in there (I think it was MM&FF) and he was showing some of his goods off. Well they showed a 4V cylinder head from one of his engine that was set up with water injection and it was in bad shape. His quote was "If you want to play racer then you have to maintain like a racer."

Now I know your doing exactly water injection, though if there is a good deal of moisture left over in the intake charge it could cause some mild corosion.

I suggest having the money set aside for a new engine in case it doesnt work out the best that you would like.

I would also suggest with a system of this nature that you have the car dyno tuned at the same time to ensure that the cycle is running 100%.

Also other idea's tothink aboutfor more horsepower and milage.
*Underdrive pulleys
*Lightweight Flywheel (If manual)
*Supersixmotorsports own roller rockers (To replace our non roller units)
*aluminum driveshaft (Carbon Fiber if you have the $700 for it from PST)
*Free flowing exhaust
*Dyno Tune to optimize the final combination

Thats a good combination of parts to increase performance all around.

Good luck with everything, its always good to think outside the box every once in a while.

This car should get about 20 MPG stock on average. I am thinking I can get it up to 30 MPG or so. The car came with a cold air intake and dual exhaust, so it should be making between the stock 190 and maybe 200 HP.

Of course, I know most people want MORE power, but I am greedy and want both. I know the snake oil salesmen on the net are saying HHO will add 30-30 HP and 20 -30 MPG!!! Which I am SURE is a load of crap. I am just interested if anyone out there has actually done this type of modification yet?

Thanks,

Phillip
I built my own set up of the HHO generator and combined it with water methanol. Mpg never saw over 18 mpg with the aggressiveness of my daily driving. I like to accelerate hard after every stop. So the answer to your question is yes it works or at least mine works. I won't say I gained 30 hp. I won't even say I gained 10 hp cuz I don't know that. What I can say based on real numbers when I fill the car back up is I haven't seen less than 19.5 mpg which like I said earlier I like to get on it all the time. Best mpg I've seen since tweaking the internals of the HHO generator was 21.5 mpg. Since that tank I've modified the cathode again which increased my amperage to 6 from 4. My set up is cheap and looks totally ghetto but I have a 2001 mustang gt getting 21.5 mpg driving it like I stole It.
