Advice needed
Is it worth keeping and supercharging a V6 with 150,000k on it? I was considering swapping that engine for a 4.6L but it seems a lot of people here think it's just not worth the money. If I could get 400hp out of a V6 I'd probably keep the engine and just start building it, but with such a high mileage I am not sure whether I should. I don't have a big budget, I bought my '99 for $3000 and would like to keep everything else under $12,000 for parts and labor.
That's a lot of miles to introduce FI to the stock internals. You can build the engine with forged parts, push the boost up more and reach 400hp on the stock block. If you don't want to spend the money on forged internals, then i would suggest finding a low mileage 99-00 block and pulling out your old one. I got my 02 motor for $400, definitely in your budget. But for $12k you could build yourself a 4.2L v6, forged, tuned, blah blah blah. 400hp is attainable with that kind of money.

Hmm i know swapping would defintly be not worth it. Im not sure about the miles. Depending how your car is it could last past 230k but idk.

So I hear, I just talked to a mechanic and he said there's going to be a lot more stuff that's gonna need to be swapped besides the engine itself and it's going to end up in high cost. Maybe I'll just get a rebuilt V6. Does anyone know what kind of potential does a V6 have as far as power? I'd like to be in between 400-500hp if possible. I know I can put either a turbo or supercharger on it, but how far can I really take it? Also, the cold air intake that I already have on my car, can I take that out and use it on a rebuilt V6? Thanks.

It shouldn't be that expensive. It sounds like the mechanic is just trying to rip you off. All you are doing is doing a direct swap engine for engine. It is not like you are changing motors. I got a price quote of $500 for me to swap in a split-port engine, that is not with the engine priceincluded. That price was set too.Howmuch was he wanting to charge you?
I would definitely look at getting a newerenginestuck in there before boosting it. That is pretty high miles for throwing on someserious power. lol

i don't know a whole lot about cars but to me it seems like it has to many miles to be doing those mods to it or even an engine swap cuz the rest of the car is aged along with the engine. it might be better to sell the car and buy a newer mustang. if u want power u could sell urs and buy a 99-04 gt for about 10,000 and use the left over cash and the money you got from your v6 to buy performance parts. thats what i would do atleast.
