When to chip?

RE: When to chip?
They won't void your warranty fron CAI or exhaust, but they could if they want to be dicks, so I always say, keep your old parts for a while just in case you have to put them back on for some reason. Exhaust doesn't matter though. Also, I recommend getting a programmer instead of a chip. I would have, except they didn't make one for my car when I did mine. If you have an automatic, a programmer is a MUST! It lets you change shift firmness and shift points, plus you can remove limiters. You can also advance timing to run only high octane fuel, dial in your tire size if you get new wheels and tires (which I hope you do, soon) and if you get new rear gears, you can flash your speedo. But here's the best part, you can take it back to stock setting with the push of a button for smog tests. Believe it ot not, even putting exhaust and CAI on can be used to the fullest with a programmer. You can even get multi set units that you program for fuel economy or race mode, and the best part, you can even switch modes on the fly with a single button (or **** depending on model) Here's a link to the Super Chip Programmers.

Well I advise my customers that a chip or flasher is a good idea after you do some serious mods like a cam or any degree of porting and polishing. When you alter the amount of air going into the engine considerably, then you should get a chip or flasher. Or if you also decide you're done modiing and want a few extra ponies, then a chip will help then too.
