CAI (Cold Air Intake)
<FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" color=red size=3>I have a question for people with 3.8 v-6 mustangs, how do you put a Cold Air Intake or better yet, where do you buy a Cold Air Intake that includes that stupid little "air cleaner sensor"?? OR, how did you get a Cold Air Intake under your hood with out the "Check Engine" light coming on?? i have tried taking off the Air Cleaner Sensor but the light keeps coming on and i have to erase it every time...is there any way to over-ride that sensor?</FONT></P>
<FONT face=Arial color=#ff0000 size=3>~*Any tips will be great*~</FONT></P>
<FONT face=Arial color=#ff0000 size=3>Thanks!!!</FONT></P>
A lot of aftermarket intakes skip the quality details like ports for the sensor. I installed one on a '96 3.8 about two years ago (I'm only just now getting back into all this) and it came with a neat little port right about where the tube bent to head toward the throttle body. It was just a hole in the pipe, but it had a rubber grommet just right for the sensor to go into just like a PCV valve. Very neat and it worked just like factory.</P>
There's no reason you can't fix your intake the same way. Take your sensor to your favorite parts store and find a PCV grommet that it fits tight. Then drill a hole in the general area where the sensor was in the stock setup and install.</P>
You're done.</P>
P.S. - You COULD override the sensor, but I'm not going to tell you how. The only thing I believe in overriding is the stupid loop between the before-catalytic converter O2 sensor and the after-converter one, just so you can trash the converter. Down with the EPA!</P>
You'll regret a hatchet job later on. Trust me.</P>

<FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" color=red size=3>Why would you not tell me? dont you think it would make every thing so much easier if you did tell me? i dont want to buy an intake and have to drill a hole in it and have to spend more money just to get that gay sensor in, to be honest i dont even see why its there, please tell me how to override the sensor, i would greatly a<SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; COLOR: red; FONT-FAMILY: Arial; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA">ppreciate it, and if youdont want to tell me over the forums, just tell me, i can arrange other forms of communication.</SPAN></FONT></P>
It's not good to override that particularsensor because it helps make your horsepower. Every engine sensor you delete on a computer car hurts you. Notice, I said "delete". The O2 circuit works perfectly well if you bypass it, but you still can't delete it. You're only fooling it into thinking it's still working.</P>
If you haven't bought the intake yet, just buy one with a sensor hole already there. If you already have the intake you're only going to spend about $2-3$ on a grommet. Cheaper than a pair of wire cutters.</P>
You don't want to hurt your innocent little 'Stang, do you?<IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0"></P>

The senser hes talking about is the IAT sensor. No big deal, just find the resistance that it sends to your ecu at say 60* or so, and just plub the resistor into the wiring harness plug instead of the sensor. In reality, it would effectivly increase your ignition timing and give you more power if it was hotter than that outside. Those things sell all over ebay for 5 - 30 bucks, but they are generic and most every car uses a different range of resistance to determine the air temperature. Its just a $.10 resistor, so if you wanna do it go ahead it won't hurt anything as long as you stay within factory specs. <edited><editID>mdvaldosta</editID><editDate>37902.4004398148</editDate></edited>
<FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" color=red size=3>Can I buy another IAT sensor (air cleaner sensor) at the dealership? or get them to take it out? because dead honest i dont see a way to get that one out. So i was thinking somethin like buy an intake with a K&N filter and just buy a different sensor to do what Mdvaldosta said, and what do youmean by the "resistor" and the "wiring harness plug"? (sorry if i sound kind of dumb, but im only 17 trying to have a nice sounding car, i dont kno much about them)</FONT></P><edited><editID>DeesStang</editID><editDate>37902.6368055556</editDate></edited>
hey better yet rather than spendin the money on getting it checked, unplug the negative cord to your car battery for 10 min. I bet anything that its on because your ATI sensor whihc is on your intake isnt plugged in correctly. if it still comes on then check it out. I had the same problem
you can buy your intake at RPMOUTLET.COM for $160+. but the bets thing to do is to go on ebay you can get a brand new one for 50 bucks with a warranty. You will be able to see some improvement, your car will respond a litlte bit quicker. Howveer if you dont put it on correctly then you can lose hp.</P>
