Default using more gas

Ok heres the deal. i was gone for a week and didnt start my v6 mustang. when i finally started it and drove it felt like the steering was a bit harder and it was using more gas then before. i could usually get about 280 per tank now its like 250. does anyone have any idea as what it could be. i heard something about a sensor that feeds it gas or something like that.

Check your tire pressures.

It's colder outside......modern engines use more gas when it's cold due to density of air =more fuel injected, because the engine computer also knows the air intake temp & barometric pressure. The wonders of technology!

Clean your MAF sensor, should use more fuel in cold weather as this is the principal of your CAI!
Denser air in the fuel mix means more fuel has to be added to the air charge to maintain stoichiometry (14.7:1 ratio) it is simple physics. Of course if you drive more gently on the gas pedal it is possible to use less gas.

yeah thats true. Altho part of the idea of the CAI is that more air makes a more complete combustion of the fuel, which means more efficiancy, which means slightly better gas mileage and horsepower. The gains are minimal, but theyre there. Well thats the idea anyway. Tire pressure would be the first thing to check. Depending on how long its been since you drove it. On average tires filled with regular air lose about 1 pound of pressure a month. You can run your tire pressure higher than whats recommended in the manual for better gas milage tho. Most tires have a max of 44 lbs where your manual only recommends 35 lbs. Plus if u fill them to about 40 lbs, youll get more even tire wear if youre any kind of agressive driver, which most of us stang guys are.
