Default wow....

well unforentualy my car has been sittin most of the winter started haveing some problems with it. acting like it was slipping and not wanting to shift i figured it was my tranny. was no leaks fuel was full and i didnot have the money to get anything fixed so it sat there for about a month .. finialy getting arround tax time i take it to a shope to see what its gunna coughst me aand what exactley went wroung and well he calls me back quoteing me little over 4,000$ and tells me this is what went wroung

first off i have a 2004 mustang conv. v6 3.9l

anyways he said that all 4 oxygen sensors are bad. they caused my mass airflow sensor to blow.. wich caused my car to get a bad fuel to air mix and blew my Catalytic Converter.. well i start looking up prices for the parts cuz that was a little to much for me at the moment... figure im looking at about 40ish for each o2sensor arround 150 for a new mass air flow sensor and as for the Catalytic Converter im not shure here is that my catbac? and if it is i thought ididnot have one sence i recentley had true dual exhaust put on (sorry not to much knolage about cars so correct me please)

but anyways anyone have any ideal about whats going on there? what could have caused all this to start? or if anyone just has a ideal of where i could get any of the parts for a little cheaper please leave a comment any help is greatley appreciated and i thank you in advance

the cats are the bulky pipe things that sat just before your stock y pipe. u should still have them if ur legal, and u can find highflow cats that are sometimes cheaper than oem cats. the maf sensor is priced at 90 at autozone, install urself. idk about the o2 sensors. my plan of action goes as follows.

get mac lt headers and a catted h pipe, get performance and cats, same time. then have a shop do it for say 100 bucks. get the maf, put it in urself. price the o2 sensors, and i believe those are plug and play. but ill have to research that and get back to u on it.

also, if u dont have emissions testing, like in my good ole state of fl =], then id say just get mac lt headers and dont put any cats in, maybe an h or x pipe, and keep ur duals. just my .02

luckly in my ****ty state of indianawe donot have emmishion testing yes i would love to get perform. parts but at the moment im on a verry tight budget being jobless at the moment so i am looking for the cheapest way to fix this or it will just end up sitting even lounger.. but i called my friend that works at autozone hopeing to get his 20% discount... lol and he tried to pull up the 02sensors maf sensor and he said they had nothing.. needed to get it online or dealership
as for my cats from what u described i beleve i still have them and am legal .. lol but not shure like i said i did have tru duals put on and sence then i have had purtymuch anyshop refuse to work on my exhaust sence except the small persionly ownd shops

they said that if i had true dual exhaust put on it takes... somehing out wich makes them not legal in indiana and they (the shope) would be required by law to put what ever it is back on my car

$4000 is a bullshiii price. O2 sensors are about $40 each like you said and you can get a new K&N cold air intake with a mass air sensor for about $215. As far as cats, Im not sure about the price of them but its still about $400-600 for a catback setup and thats 2 cats 2 mufflers and piping. It would be about $4000 for a new tranny or any other transmittion parts. If something is slipping while putting it in gear or when driving its your transmittion, also my car would pop out of gear after hitting third due to the overdrive blowing which is really common on mustangs. Take it somewhere else like a transmittionn shop.

I agree, thats a B>S> price to pay for what he quoted.

Does the engine lack power? if so then it IS possible that the Cats are plugged , caused by fouled rich reading o2 sensors. This could make it difficult to change gear, since you wont generate enough vacuum (in vac mod) to cause shifting. Yoiu have ATF filled to the correct level dont you? Is your CEL on? if so what codes?

Regards Steve.

Noooo..Mustangs dont suck to work on. They are pretty straight foward especially in the 98-2004 range. And the fact that its a domestic car makes it pretty easy to find parts.
