Default transmission problems

my transmission is giving me trouble. every time i shift into fifth it grind the only way to get it in with out grinding is to push it gently and wait for it to fall in place. 2nd gear is also a problem sometimes. i have an 01 v6 with a b&m shifter. the shifter has always made a noise when in third and fifth a sort of metal on metal rubbing but it was low and i thought it was just because it was a sts. if any one has any ideas please let me kno

Are your stop bolts set correctly? They might of came loose over time, i would open it up and doubble check them.

there are no stop bolts at the top or bottom of the shifter i bought the car with the shifter already in it
