'01 gears?
alright, first time posting in the v6 room.my friend irma has a 2001 automatic v6 and i was telling her what a difference gears make so she is thinking about getting some. sense i dont know much about v6 stangs i was hoping you guys could tell me what size rear end the car has and what is the stock gear ratio.
thanks
thanks
The V6 Stang has a 7.5" rear end with 2:73 gears. The common rule for new ring and pinion gears is 3:73's for a manual trans and 4:10's if you have an automatic. It is also important to get a possi installed at the same time or the drive tire will spin like your on ice. Check this link and go to the 5th and 6th item down. [sm=smiley20.gif]

Agreed, go with 4.10s. We recently did this very same gear swap along with a Trac Lok differential in my wife's '04 V-6 and it is the best performance mod so far.

What quater mile time do you get with those gears? I have a 2002 v6 automatic and I am considering the same setup. I was wondring if it would be cheaper and more efficent to find a 8.8 rear out of a gt and just put in 3.73 or 4.10's. Also how much would I be looking at spending after buying gears, t-lok, and getting them installed.
Don't bother with an 8.8" rear end. You don't need it, because our 7.5" rear end is plenty strong up to around 400 hp. Your going to pay around 200 bux each for a new possi and 4:10 ring and pinion gears. Installation ranges from around 300 to 600 bux.
what about 1/4 mile times with the addition of the 4.10 and t-lok or posi differential. I didnt realize installition was so expensive. also how bad of gas milage is attainded from the gears.

I don't have any 1/4 mile times as this car is only used as a daily driver. The parts (from www.gefracing.com) ran $169 for a brand new Trac Lok and $196 for FRPP 4.10s. Shipping brought the total to $395. Installation was $280, with the shop I went to supplying new carrier bearings. Gas mileage doesn't seem to have changed much if at all. One other item to remember, with a 2002 you have an electronic speedometer that will need to be corrected with a "Speed Cal" device or a hand held flash tuner such as a Diablo or Superchips. By the way, is your V-6 "Sonic Blue".....great color in my opinion.

no i have the "true blue" i think what it is called. Im getting a SCT program from my car in a week or so, i probably wont be able to do the gears till the middle o summer, so i have time to save money. I am really surprised to hear that the gas milage wasn't affected. Thanks for that link too. I am a little hesitant with getting the gears b/c i have heard so many bad things about the 7.5 and yet a few people still tell me its good enough. I would just hate to spend money on it for it to break. If any one knows how much time the gears take off the 1/'4 mile please let me know.

I don't know what the 4:10's will do for your ET, but I can guarntee it will cut your 60' down quite a bit. My gas mileage wasn't effected either.
