Default engine sputtering, please help, im lost

i ahve a 01 v-6. and recently it started sputtering when im going up steap hills or if im just cruising along and then jump on the gas, it will spuetter for a bit then catch up and go. if my rpms are about 2500 when i drop the peddle its fine but below that it jerks and acts like its starving for something. up hills i have to drop to fourth and keep the rpms up. anyone have any ideas? any help would be great.

thanks

im was having the same problem.... then i took it to auto zone and had them check my computer to see what was up... turns out i had a misfire in my 3rd cylinder ....

im hoping that a tune up... changes my plugs and wires will fix it and its not a coil... but i say you run to an auto store and have them check it out... after all it is free

if anyone else has had this problem before or knows how to fix it please help!!!

Its also called "Its a V6 with 193hp."
Any minor problem will make the already low power feel even more slow.

Keeping up on common maint is inportant on any car but is more notticable on weaker cars like our own beloved V6's.

if it was a misfire wouldnt i have other signs like rough idle or acceleration. ive also noticed it does it more when the car is at normal temp. early morning going to work it seems fine or atleast not as bad. then later in the day it gets worse and any form of a hill its terrible.

Do your reg maint on it.

Plugs
Plug wires if you havnt yet
Oil change with OE specified oil and filter
Air filter change
Fuel filter change
Use seafoam through the vacuum, crankcase and fuel.

If you still have problems after that then you need to take it to a mechanic.

I should also mention that Ford installed different spark plugs on the passenger side of the engine than the driver side of the engine.

Read through this spec site, it will give you the details.

well i changed the plugs and wires, i put the seafoam in the gas tank and the oil, waiting a couple days to change the oil (giving the seafoam time to run through),changed the air filter, the fuel filter was changed about 4 months ago,did a fuel computer reset and still sputtering. any other ideas would be great.

ok just cleaned the maf and still the same. disconnected it completly and ran absolutly the same. but i got trouble codes, 102(volume curcit low input) and 113(intake air temp curcit high input). the codes only show when disconnected. could the maf be bad but still being picked up by the car so no codes are popping when pluged in, or is it good and something else is wrong.

It's even worse with a 95 3.8L. They don't do very well on hills at all. I just got back from Clear Lake so I know first hand. I'm probably going to do dual exhaust for a little extra hp for hills. Anyway, I would say check the coil packs, or possibly a PCM. More than likely, it isn't the PCM but I wouldn't rule it out. Check the coil first. You aren't throwing an o2 code so it's probably not that! As for the other code 113, probably IAT sensor, I don't think it could anything else, but I could be wrong. GL

Hi

Bad head gasket or ignition wire wire cause the problem.
