Default 3.8L Mods?

Hey i recently got a 1994 3.8l mustang but find there just isnt enugh umpf to it... SO i was looking into maybe getting a CAI (MAC) , a chip and maybe put some nos into her... I dont have to much to spend or id be rebuilding the engine so im basicly looking for some cheap HP. My question is, can i run a chip and nos together and also how much boost can i run of nos on a stock 3.8? Also where can ya get a decent chip and a T-lock ?

Cheers,
Shane

yeah those 6rs are slugish. why not supercharge? i think it would be a better move, nos tears up your car and you cant drive around with it in your car so theres no need to have it unless your gonna drag

cheap mods don't do anything. you get what you pay for. get a dual exhaust. best bang for your buck. looks, sound, and hp. probably be around $400 for a fab'd setup

Got a dual exhaust off a 98 gt, with rear end and also tires and rims. Was looking at getting a Supercharger off a 1994 thunderbird super coupe. I pulled a head off today beause she was burning anit-freeze, and the head is acctuly pitted on the pasenger side rear cylinder ! so now i need to find a new head or find someone to weld it and cut it back down the the right height ! Im looking at getting the exaust, supercharger, CAI(mac), shift kit, 3.73 gears(gonna change them on the 98 rear end i got) a chip(not sure what one?) and somefresh paint to finish her off. Any sugestions on the Chip ?

Depending on the milage on the engine the first mod you may want to consider is a newer engine. You can get a used 3.8 for not too much money. If you put too many mods in it may just shrorten the little life your engine has left. I have a 96 with almost 170k on it. Its running fine now but I'm thinking my best money would be in a 4.2 engine swap. I'm thinkin I can do it under a grand if I chose my parts well and do it all myself.

If you are needing head work anyway you might as well do a split port swap. That's +53 hp right there. Do some port and polish work before you put it on and you'll get even more. I bought a set of ready to go heads and intakes for under 300 bucks.

Well here are some problems you will run into if you dont already know about them.
1.) 94/95 use EEC-IV and 96-04 use EEC-V for the ECM.
2.) due to the information above 94/95 only has chips available and no hand held tuners
3.) Wiring harness is different from 96-97 and 1998and 99-00 and 01-03 and 2004.
4.) 94/95 use a mechanical air injector pump to put oxygen into the exhaust 96+ uses electric.

Your best and probably cheapest route for great horsepower is to get a whole Supercoupe engine and put it into your car. Those engines are tough and good for upwards of 400-450hp. Its a complete forged bottom end.
You will need the wiring harness as well to change some plugs, modify your stock wiring harness.
The stock intercooler tubing wont fit the mustang (From what I have heard) so you will need to have some custom tubing made. Using a front mount intercooler is the best way to go as well.

V6Sprout is on several other mustangforums (Not here) and knows everything you need to know about doing this swap.

Being that it sounds like your are comfortable around the engine this swap shouldnt be bad for you.

Good luck
