4.2 stroker vs. engine swap?
hello all. I'm not sure what all a stroker build up consists of or what it costs or what gains are expected. so, someone chime in on that. I have the opportunity to buy a 4.6 plus manual tranny, plus harness and computer for 1400. Local, no shipping. so, which would be easier, cheaper, and better bang for buck between stroking my current engine (unsure of cost) or swapping?
just my twocents because im not real sure what it all consists of , but for 1400 it would be cheaper to buy that engine I believe, But you have to take into account gas milage. If that car is your daily driver than thats really going to hurt you. And I dont know about insurance.
That isn't too bad of a price for the complete engine, tranny, and harness. Does it come with all of the accessories?
I would be sort of up in the air about it all. Are you comfortable doing at least part of the work yourself? You are going to need to beef up the rear-end and suspension either way. Well, You don't need to beef up the rear-end and suspension if you are just doing the 4.2L but it is recommended.
In my area I can find the 4.6L SOHC engines cheaper than I can find the 4.2L so I am leaning more towards the V8 swap if I decide to keep the car for a bit longer.

For the money you'll spend on other junk to make that V8 work, you could have a nice 4.2Lor better yet, warm over your stock 3.8Land adda blower. You'dbe making more power that the 4.6L.
