My car did not have a trunk release when I first bought it and I was trying to put one in and I hooked one end to ground and the other to power from a button and nothing happens! there is 12 volts at the wire at the solonoid and if I hook up the solonoid direct to the battery it will pop open the trunk. What am I doing wrong? Do I Need a relay or something else? I have good connection to the wiring and the ground. Is 18 guage wire heavy enough?

 

switch the polarity, maybe that's the issue. Find any mustang or lincoln and get the trunk release button out of the glove box, then hook it up using that, it'll look a lot cleaner.

Yup, if it's good directly from the battery (positive), has to be the ground.

Where did you ground the wire? Tell me not to the tail light assembly!!

 

I grounded it to the trunk latch but I'm not surethis was not the best place to ground it. Where would be the best place?
