had the same exact noise sounds like metal to metal scraping right. makes your think of engine rebuilds..........do the seafoam treatment 1/3 in tank ,crank and intake did mine noise is gone power is back and found out about the 87 octangknock and had to go to 89 but man what a difference . do the seafoam, leave it in the crank till you are ready to change your oil its safe. when you do your oil change add some seafoam as an additive to keep it clean. theres plenty of articles out there even videos to show you how to do it

seafoam does not keep your engine clean... infact your supposed to change your oil within 500 miles after seafoaming a car

if you want an addive go to your local parts store and pick up a bottle of lucas...

go ahead and seafoam it though, you will also be able to see where the exhaust leak is from all the smoke

so you can use seafoam for exhaust leaks? Awesome.

I'm not ready to change my oil yet. I've got mobil 1 in there and even though it's like 6 months old, it's only got a few thousand miles on it, like 3kish, so I'm gonna wait until summer to change it. Too damn expensive to do it all the time, lol.

I think I'll just run it through the tank and the vacuum lines, you don't absolutely have to change your oil right after that correct?

oh i thought you took care of your car ,water on the exhaust causing rust ,hmm you must not drive in the rain. lets see not one but 2 1986 5.0 mustangs same set upa/c drips on exhaust but yet no holes no cracks 2 more v-6 mustangs same thing. the one mustang i had with the tickingyeah i tried lucas yeah its good, but didnt last the ticking came back after a week. had lot of concerns about seafoam so i went to the source. 2000 miles later still going strong no ticking none not even a hint of itfrom seafoam:Thank you for using Sea Foam. If people on the net compare me with B-12, I am totallyat a loss for words. We are entirely different. B-12 is a Chemical blend containing harsh chemicals which when over-used can damage fuel system parts that are plastic, rubber, neoprene, etc.Sea Foam is a 100% pure petroleum produce that is totally safe in ANY engine, and can be used ANY where in that engine to solve a lot of cleanliness problems. In the oil, it totally depends on why you are using it.For Preventive maintenance, we suggest 1/2 can about 100 miles before you change oil and filter, then the other 1/2 can into the new oil as an additive. Because it is 100% pure petroleum, you can leave it in.REMEMBER - the rule of thumb - when oil is dirty - change it. The addition of a cleaner may probably tend to make the oil dirtier - quicker - so keep an eye on it.Hope this answers your concerns,Dale C. Lackore

it doesnt fix exhaust leaks, you can use it to see where it is leaking from (cause of the smoke)

seafoam is not a forum sponsor, it gets recomemded when needed, other wise contact Amanda@AutoForumUniverse.comto become a sponsor, otherwise, there are other products and its not even a common problem for the v6 mustangs

Yeah that's what I meant. It just never occured to me that if exhaust is getting through there, smoke from seafoam would as well. Haha.

Is it a ticking or scraping noise? cuz if its ticking and when you rev your car while under the hood and it doesnt get louder, it could be your fuel injectors. When your injectors get older the tend to "tick". If you have noticed a drop in your mpg and you havent started driving differently, it most likely will be a crack or something in your exhaust manifold. I had that problem with mine, and everyone else will eventually have the same problem. V6s are known for their exhaust manifolds cracking. I had a crack that was small so i just welded it than it just spread to be about a foot long so i put headers in.

it's more like a cross between ticking and scraping... It's hard to explain. It does get louder and more severe as the revs go up, but then it gets drowned out by the engine noise so I can't really tell much after 2500rpms or so. I want to seafoam it but ugh, I don't want to drop 50 bucks on oil when this oil is perfectly fine.

put the 1/3 in there (the crank)and just leave it you'll be fine. unless your oil turns dirty then you wont have to change it. i have it in mine noise gone and changed to 89 octane got rid of a octane tick engine runs like new
