Default MAF Damage

Has anyone heard of or experienced damage to their mass airflow sensor due to oil deposits from an air filter (K&N, Accel, etc.)? The parts manager at our local Ford dealership told me he destroyed the one on his brand new Ranger after putting in a K&N. Said the oil got on the sensor element and blew it (like touching a halogen bulb with your fingers).

I thought he might have cleaned it and put too much oil on it, but he said it was right out of the box.

The thing is, I've sold parts for years and never heard of this. Maybe nobody's realized the sensor went out because of that...

Holler back.

I wonder if maybe the folks with damage were using the spray pump oil instead of the aerosol type. You can deposit a lot more fluid with the pump than with the aerosol. Something to think about...
