Default how do you clean headers?

I got some used shorties and was wondering if I could put engine cleaner foam in the tubes to help clean up some of the black crap in there. Is that okay to do? Could I rinse with water and blow dry it to get rid of all moisture?

What I would do is get them acid dipped with the stuff that they use to clean up carburators. That stuff will eat throw anything and you dont have to worry about it ruining your headers.

hell, while theyre out of the car, you could paint em with hi temp paint. a friend of mine did that with some black hi temp paint, and it actually came out pretty sweet, hasnt flaked off, a few k miles later.

i looked at the high temp paint and just didn't like the colors, and all the colors were flat, i was kinda looking for something a little more flashy.

As for the acid dip, that sounds like a good idea. But i have no idea the first place to start looking to have that done. could any mechanic to it? and is it costly?

I would assume any mechanic could do it and I would say it should be real cheap prolly no more than like 20 bucks. We have it at the shop that I work at and all i did was put mine in the bucked and about a half hour later they looked almost new. The only problem that I have run into with painting them with high temp paint is when I did it on my Ford the paint faded and burned off course the truck is a 351W and used for pullin so maybe the extra stress did it but I dont know.

I used some high temp ceramic paint on mine and they turned out nice and have never dulled or flaked.

You should be able to take them to a machine shop and get them dipped.

if u paint them dont use duplicolors header paint.....mine didnt last 20 mins on ther but it should be fine if u got another brand and if nothing else just get some black paint so that it looks better than dull metal/rust
