Default HELP!!!!!

Ok so my car has been making this knocking sound when I first start it and when it hits about 3000rpm. I took it to my grandpa and my uncle, and they both told me to put oil cleaner into it, that the oil was probably dirty. After doing that, it started knocking worse. I took it back to them, and they asked what kind of oil I put in it. I told them I just got new synthetic put in last saturday. They told me the oil is too thin, and to change it for reg 10W40, along with oil treatment (thick ****, that was). I did that, and this morning when i pulled in to get gas, it started knocking like crazy!!
Since then, the motor won't stop knocking and clattering at any speed. I'm scared that the motor is F*cked...
any tips/advice? My uncle is coming over to look at it tonight, so I need some help before then please.
It's a 96 v6 auto.
The worst part is, I JUST changed the entire steering collumn last night, and now this! [>:]

if its knocking you have a spun rod bearing. you need a new engine or a rebuild. sorry to be the bearer of bad news, i've had this happen to me.

my uncle said that it was probably a bearing and that the part itself isn't expensive, it's just the work involved in replacing it.
I hope that it's something I can replace... and not a rod because they're damn expensive!
If I have to get a new engine I'm thinking of a v8.

Default RE: HELP!!!!!

question- the day after i got the car, i took it to the shop and they put full synthetic oil in it.
my uncle said that the oil they put in was too thin, so i changed it to 10w40.
he also had me put this oil cleaner in that was super thick- does that have anything to do with my problem?
