You gotta do what you gotta do when you in a bad position. He doesn't have a stolen battery so it doesn't apply, he can just just the battery and take off the cables and see if it dies, and yes it's his ALT.

P.S And no, I wouldn't recommend jumping the cables just to try it, only if you REALLY need to.

I meant taking the cables off with the car running is a bad idea.

Advanced sells the Motorcraft alternators. They're a little pricey, but they are O.E. parts, which seem to still be superior to pretty much any other parts out there.

Oh, LoL, yeah it's not the best thing on your electrical system, but it's a quick test and doesn't require removing the ALT to check if its good or bad. You will know right away, if it dies, the ALT is bad, if not, it's good and turn off the car. You are right tho', best to use a volt meter or have it check at napa or something. Could possibly damage PCM or other parts which is all BAD, but not likely that will happen. Alot of people will say its harmful, but you would have to run it like that for a long period of time to hurt something.

P.S My grammer sucks today, alot of editing! [:'(]

Not true, I saw a guy do that with his LS1, got a voltage surge and fried his ECM on the stop!

A voltage surge from a stock ALT, you sure it wasn't a high output ALT? I'm not saying it can't happen, but it sounds like something else caused the ECM to fail, or he's running a huge system or something. Just doesn't sound right to me, but I'm sure it happened, you have to reason to lie about someone else's car, I would think anyway.

so wat your saying is if your battey dies and you boost your car you should leave it running with the cables attached to both car batteries until you think its got enough juice to start on its own? that basically makes no sense to me. i always take the cables off when the car is started up.
