Default E-10 89 Octane?

So an ethanol plant opened up near our town and our gas stations are starting to supply it
ethanol is selling $.20 cheaper than unleaded but i was wondering since it is 89 octane and unleaded is 87 that if it would
do any damage to my engine with out a tune i know its only 2 octane difference but i want to make sure before i start using that ****
thanks

i use 87 sometimes because i'm in CO and it seems to work ok. less power than 91, which is the best i can get here, but that is to be expected.

what i want is some flex fuel... that is like $1.00 cheaper here. >.<

stay away from E85 fuel it will damage your fuel lines and pump.
There is nore enthanol in that fuel then gas. the extra enthanol breaks down all the rubber and seals.

and Ford recommends 87 octane if you use 85 you might have a rough idle and poor acc.

stay with 87

There's nothing wrong with the 89 octane fuel you're talking about ... it's only 10 percent ethanol. The E85 fuel StangTech is talking about is 85 percent ethanol (they put in just enough gasoline so that crazy Cooter won't drink it). The E85 fuel is for vehicles specifically designed for E85 ... nobody else. Use the 10 percent (89 octane) ethanol, it's good for your engine, good for the local economy, good for the environment ... no real downside (unless you've got a really old/high mileage mustang with alot of varnish in the fuel system ... it'll clean that out & gum up your injectors.
But that's another story ...
