Default Cruise control prob?

When I was going to school today, I test out the cruise control feature. However, appearently its not working. This is the thing: while going at 60 and i wanted to speed up to 75. Okay, so what I did instead of pressing the gas was I press and hold the "Set Accel" button. Then it gradually increase but then around 70, the car starts accelerating like if I floor it. My question is, when you use cruise control and use the button to increase speed...does it suppose to increase gradually or increase quickly like if you floor it? Besides that, it work and stay at 75...just this didnt happen to my previous car, which is a grand marquis 92 so I was wondering if this was normal. Thanks!

Mine doesn't work at all in my 2000 so I don't know. []

I'd love to know how to fix it, just to know.

i'm guessing you have an auto? never had a problem with my cruise control doing that on my 98 v6, or my 04 gt. both sticks. it just gradually increases no matter what gear i'm at and how fast i'm going.
