Default Mileage difference?

Im posting this for my girlfriend who just recently got a 2001 Mustang. She's been driving it for about two weeks and she noticed a problem with how much gas mileage she had been getting. She gets about 230 miles to a tank...but I drive a 2001 Mustang GT and get about 300. She took it to a mechanic just to have it looked at and he mentioned a tune up. Could a simple tune up make up for a 70 mile to a tank difference like that? If not what else could be causing that? Thanks in advance

YES!!!!

The spark plugs, wires, coil pack (or distributer depending on year), tranny fluid, cooling fluid, engine oil, transmission oil, and fuel filter all need to be changed every 50-75K (or whenever time calls) because they have a drastic effect on the MPG of the car. Odds are she has a bad plug or wire (or two) and that's causing a slight misfire in a cylinder which is causing the poor MPG.

might wanna think about cleaning the MAF sensor. its in the big round black box on your intake system. go to the autoparts store and buy maf cleaner and spray it down. it usually frees up a few mpg. need more info about the car. does it have aftermarket rims? that raped me of 2 mpg myself.

Also how does she drive? Does she put her foot into it alot? That sucks up gas too. Clean the air filter, and change the fuel filter while your checking everything out.

The mechanic also said sumthing about an ECG valve? I was thinkn he meant EGR but I wasnt sure. Could a prob with that cause a loss of mpg?

I get 320 miles per tank on average, with occaissional pegging of the tach, and I've gone as high as 360 to a tank. I'm pretty sure I'm more modified than she is, so I'd assume it's her driving style causing the problem, if not lack of maintenance.
