3. For your first car I would say go with one of the older models, nothing 99 or newer. Insurence will kill you, even if your not paying for it right now, you will be soon enought.
Im just going to point out that since the v6 isnt a performance model, the insurance isnt bad on them. The insurance on my v6 is actually a few hundred dollars less per year than the insurance on my old honda civic.

Anyways, Id say a mustang would be a great first car as long as you drive semi-responsibly. Keep her under 90 and dont take turns on two wheels lol.

Also, check into r-titled cars. I bought my 01 for $4800 (probably still paid a little too much), and the only problem with it is that it has a slight wobble at highways speeds (Im pretty sure its a bent wheel). If a wrecked car is fixed correctly, itll drive just fine. Its the ones that were thrown back together that you have problems with.

According to my insurance agent, the v8 mustangs are "performance models"; my agent flat-out told me the insurance would be about double what a v6 would be. Im 19 and paying like 1100/yr for liability on the stang through progressive.

Yea, look around, mustangs go for decent prices, but it depends on how much you have to spend. Since you're still a kid (under 21) I'd suggest you stay with a sixer. GTs/Cobras are very nice to have at a young age, but let's be frank here, younger people are much, much, much more likely to race, and being that they have minimal experiance, they are also just as likely to wreck with a large majority of minors taking personal injury with a nice fraction being injured for life or dieing. When I was 18 I bought a 98 V6, and had I had the car I had now, I'd probably be either dead, or not driving a Mustang as I would have wrecked it.

There is a huge parts market for Mustangs, more so V8s than sixers, however you can still find lots of sites with a few performance parts for sixers if that itch gets to you.

As far as MPG goes you average sixer will get around 24/25 mpg on the highway. My old 98 got around 27, and the 2000 gets around 26 ish.

don't be afraid of mileage, mustangs run for ever. also a rear ended mustang is easy to fix and it will go pretty cheap. i bought my 95 V6 for $750 pulled the trunk out for $150 and the car looks like new, i just need to take care of a scratch on the passenger side door.

not true, i just turned 18 a few days ago, but i drive since 16. i started with my brother's galant and my fathers Trooper. At 17 i bought my mustang. and even though i'm driving for two years, i have much more driving skills than about 80% of NY. Even if i'm speeding very bed, i'm still careful and totally control the situation. So age doesn't affect driving skills, that depends on person, regardless the age.
