For the last month or two when you would walk up to the car sometimes you could smell a bit of gas.

Just today I noticed a small puddle underneath the car and found that the gas tank is leaking in 2 different places. The leak is actually coming out of the small rectangular holes that come with the gas tank, but there is condensation for about a circular foot around the whole area.

Can this kind of issue be dealt with using a patch kit?
Or do I need a new fuel tank? Is it safe to get a replacement tank from the auto wreckers?


it's a 3.8L '96 convertible if that helps.

 

I see you never received a reply on this post. I'm in a similar situation - my '89 GT has a leaky tank and I'm considering replacing it myself. Can you tell me what your solution was?

it's a gasket on the filler neck, very common

 

The dealer still carries those gaskets, I think the last one I bought was 7 bucks, that was last year. It is the same part# for fox and sn95/new edge cars.
