Default help detecting the problem?

mustang owner 96 mustang v6 auto 122,000 miles

I notice a screeching noice/sound coming from the fuel tank

my mechanic told me it was the fuel pump

i took it to another mechanic and he told me it was the fuel filter

I appreciate the help

sounds like a pump going bad, a filter wont make noise. but when you change the pump you should change the filter too if its been on there a while.

+1 on the fuel pump. Filters don't make noise.
