Default Ignition problem.

I have a 93 LX with a 2.3L. I got a computer error code that said the the Distributorless Ignition System dual spark inhibit failed. I have not been able to find out if this is a separate module, part of the coil pack or in the computer. I've heard all three answers from "experts". If anyone knows more about this problem I would really appreciate knowing. The car runs, but it's not as nice as it could be.

I'm not an "expert" in any way but my guess would be that one of the coil packs just isn't firing. I have worked on a bunch of rangers with the same engine and a coil pack hadhad to be replaced because of misfiring.

Any advice on how to test to see which one may be bad?

Disconnect all the ignition wires from one coil pack and start the car. If the car runs the same as it was before you found your problem coil pack. If it runs worse shut the car off and reconnect the ignition wires. Then disconnect the ignition wires from the other coil pack and see if it runs worse or the same. If it runs the same when you disconnect one of the coil packs you know which one is the problem.

That was too simple of a solution for me to have thought of. Thanks for saving me a couple hours of work. I'll post on here if it works.

Sounds like a coilpack has gone out. Maybe thats why your getting the error message.
