Snow
I don't know what I'm going to do. Last year winter was bad. I had a Ford Escort to drive to and from work every night. It snows a lot. There isn't a lot of salt on the road. It gets really cold. The snow packs into ice. I slide all over the road. It was really bad in the escort.
That's where my problem is. Now all I have is a Mustang. This is rear wheel drive with no weight in the back end. I'm already all over the road when it rains. So snow is going to be pretty bad. I need to do something so that my only car is not totaled this winter.
What can I do? Do I need tires or put some weight in the trunk or rent a 4-wheel drive jeep or just don't drive? I don't know. The problem is I work at night, when it's coldest outside. No sun, just black ice. Please help so I can get started right away. Thanks.

buy a lsd and a set of snow tires, i had winterforce (blizzak knock offs) and a auburn posi with 3.73s in my old camaro and i had no problem with 8" of snow, last winter i drobe my 88 toyota pickup, this winter i have a 90 f350 while the stang sits in a trailer
studded tires are illegal unless your a government worker...
i drove my mustang off and on last winter when my truck was down.. i have 4.10s and a tloc.. i stuck to the state roads (michigan is HORRIBLE about not keeping their roads clean).. state roads were usually clean and salted.. once i hit the indiana line, the roads were pretty much clear wherever i drove...
my solution was to stick to cleaner roads (even if it was a slightly longer route).. just remember.. to recover from a slide, dont give it gas; just push in the clutch and let it recover itself... start slowing down WAY before stop signs.. put it in neutral and coast up to stop signs when you can... basically whenever your slowing down you should put the car in neutral (it keeps your rear tires from spinning out from under you when your front tires are trying to slow the car down)...
and remember.. salt is HORRIBLE for your rims.. so make sure you keep that **** clean...

last winter i had new tires and 200 lbs of salt in my trunk, it was decent, i could make it around very slowly lol. taking off at stop lights was a bitch.. it would take me 10 seconds sometimes to get accross. i usually start off in 2nd gear also
this is the same type of tread in run in the winter in 215/60/16 but without studs. winter retreads are awsome. they are soft and dig down through snow and grip well. studs are OK if they are legal in your state.
here is an example of the type of tread that i have found best and far better than blizzaks of pirelli performance snow tires.

Im running a 215/65 studless tire on stock wheels-about 1" more ground clerance. otherwise, I just start in second, keep my tank over half full for weight, and drive carefully, and plan out routes with minimal stopping- or try to time stoplights so i dont have to completely stop.
so have my heated seat warmers, awesome mod
