Throttle response
what exactly does a "tune up" consist of? Mine is just at 92k, should I be replacing anything? I have only had the car for a year and 5K miles so idk what was replaced and when but it doesnt seem like the previous owner took great care of it so im guessing not much was replaced.
spark plugs and wires
fuel filter
air filter
check everything from belt to oil level
I would pop the hood and have someone step on the gas while you stare at it. If the throttle cable or anything looks weird then there you go. Check one of your spark plugs as they may tell you whats going on. In the back of my Haynes repair manual it has pictures of different spark plugs and what they look like when different things happen.

So basically check all your fluid levels & top up or change as required. Coolant level, Brake & clutch. Brake/clutch fluid should be changed about every 4 years since it is Hygroscopic. Coolant every 2 years.
Check all lubrication points (engine oil, Power steering, Gearbox, etc). Follow manuf recoms
Check all filters & clean/replace as required. (especially fuel & air filters)
Pull any codes from the engine & repair affected emission components.
Check all consumable items like Battery, Brake pads/shoes & Exhaust mounting/ condition.
Remove & inspect spark plugs for over-sized gap & correct running (color) conditions.
Perform under-body lubrication of ball joints, drive shaft etc.
That about covers most of it ! Also pay attention to any unusual noises as these could be indication of impending part or system failures, problem is this is when you need to find a fair & informed mechanic who is not going to drain your pocket but is excellent at troubleshooting. These engines are capable of running to 300,000+ miles if looked after so it will be worth the time if your intending to keep the vehicle for any amount of time also will increase resale value or at the least be more attractive to a buyer.
Re-the throttle cable lag, there is some slack in the cable but you would tend to accomodate this with normal foot control, it should not cause engine lag since we are talking about .00005 secs to cover about 1/8" when you mash the pedal!!!
